The aim of the new decision is to prevent the spread of provocative and misleading content online. The platforms have been instructed to identify and report these. The government has also made it clear that strict action will be taken against platforms that do not comply with the instructions. Action will be taken as per the law against those who post such content not only within the country but also from outside India. Reports are coming out that this decision has been taken following complaints that terrorist organizations are using social media platforms for their activities.
