The Union Road Transport Ministry has announced an annual pass based on FASTag to avoid traffic congestion related to toll collection on highways. This will be implemented from August 15. Announcing the new scheme, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said in a statement that the financial burden of highway users will be reduced by reducing the annual toll cost from 10,000 to 3,000. This move will help eliminate the need for vehicles to park at toll plazas. He said that this will smooth traffic and reduce travel time. The annual pass is being introduced with the aim of reducing complaints and travel disruption related to tolls for those living within a 60-km radius of toll plazas.
