The CPM leadership has agreed to field sitting MLAs in nine of the ten assembly constituencies in Thiruvananthapuram district. There are two opinions in the party on whether District Secretary V. Joy, who is also the Varkala MLA, should contest again. The district secretariat, which will meet today in the presence of CPM State Secretary M. V. Govindan, will discuss the matter. CPM candidates had won all the 10 seats contested in the district in the last election. The CPM may take over the Thiruvananthapuram Central seat, which was won by the Democratic Kerala Congress last time. This is in the context of Antony Raju being disqualified in the Thondimuthal case. There is also a strong demand in the party to take over the Kovalam seat contested by the Janata Dal.
