Japanese vehicle brand Toyota introduced its new-generation Hilux pickup truck last year. It featured a refreshed design and technology, and an IMV platform that can now support battery-electric powertrains. Now, new reports suggest that the company is preparing to implement these updates for the Fortuner. A camouflaged test model of this SUV has been spotted for the first time in Thailand. It reveals a new, tougher and more powerful design. The front of the new Fortuner has a design borrowed from the 2026 Hilux. It features a vertical front grille with a honeycomb pattern. It is flanked by angled air intakes and sleek LED headlamps. At the rear, there is a redesigned tailgate and bumper, and sleek LED taillamps connected by a light bar. The roof is slightly sloped towards the rear, and a new shark-fin antenna has also been incorporated. Platform and engines The new Toyota Fortuner is built on the same IMV platform as the new Hilux. This platform has been updated to accommodate a variety of powertrains, including hydrogen, hybrid, and battery electric options. While the 2026 Hilux will be available in electric (EV) form, Toyota has not yet specified whether an electric (BEV) version of the Fortuner will be available. Currently, the SUV is offered with only a 2.7-liter petrol engine and a 2.8-liter mild-hybrid diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 165 bhp and 245 Nm of torque, while the diesel engine produces 203 bhp and up to 500 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter gearbox. Interior Features The new Fortuner is likely to feature two 12.3-inch screens on the inside. One for the digital instrument cluster and the other for infotainment. New materials and updated buttons are expected. Features could include wireless charging, ventilated and powered front seats, auto AC, ADAS, and a 360-degree camera.
