The worst natural calamity in the state this century. 200 deaths have been confirmed so far. Many are yet to be found. The SDPI state delegation demanded that the Wayanad landslides, which claimed many lives, left many missing and destroyed many houses and properties, should be declared a national disaster. Rescuers say the death rate will rise further. An area itself has been washed away. The survival of the disaster zone requires the sincere intervention of the central state governments and the general public. The government should learn a lesson from the continuous calamities like this in Kerala and especially in Wayanad. Unnatural development is threatening Kerala.
