The Health Department is launching a mass campaign in collaboration with various departments to prevent amoebic encephalitis. Health Minister Veena George has announced that wells in all houses and institutions in the state should be chlorinated and water storage tanks should be cleaned and cleaned on August 30 and 31. Water storage tanks in all places including houses, hospitals, educational institutions, hostels and flats should be cleaned. The decision was taken as per the instructions of the meeting chaired by the Chief Minister. The Health Minister also informed that all health workers and institutions should participate in the campaign being led by local self-government bodies, Haritha Keralam Mission and the Water Resources Department. A high-level meeting of the Health Department chaired by the Minister was held to assess the current situation. This year, 41 amoebic encephalitis cases were reported. Currently, there are 18 active cases. Cases have been reported in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Malappuram districts. The Minister also directed to ensure medicines required for treatment. Water in resorts, hotels, water theme parks, and swimming training centers must be chlorinated and chlorine levels must be checked and ensured. Action will be taken against those who do not comply with this as per the Public Health Act. The Minister directed that health workers should check and ensure the drinking water sources.
