The construction of a tunnel to solve the travel woes of Wayanad will begin tomorrow. The construction work will begin after the environmental clearance was received for the Anakkampoyil-Kallady-Meppadi tunnel project. The construction cost of the project included in the KIIFB project is Rs 2134 crore. 8.1 km of the 8.73 km route is planned as a double tunnel. The Konkan Railway Corporation Limited is the implementing agency for the route. About 33 hectares of land in Kozhikode and Wayanad districts are to be acquired for this. Forest land has already been handed over in this. In addition, 90 percent of private land has been acquired.
