Kozhikode: Traffic restrictions at Thamarassery Pass from January 5. Traffic restrictions will be imposed from January 5 as felled trees are being loaded onto lorries using cranes and road maintenance is being carried out at bends 6, 7 and 8 of the Thamarassery Pass on National Highway 766. The Executive Engineer of the National Highways Sub-Division of the Public Works Department announced that multi-axle vehicles and heavy vehicles will be diverted via the Nadukani Pass or the Kuttiyadi Pass. Meanwhile, thousands of tourists are coming to Wayanad to celebrate the holidays. Due to the influx of tourists, heavy traffic congestion is being experienced at the Thamarassery Pass these days. Long queues of vehicles can be seen in various parts of the pass since early morning. The uncontrolled increase in tourist vehicles arriving in Wayanad for the Christmas and New Year holidays has intensified the congestion. Strict restrictions have currently been imposed on the pass as part of controlling the congestion. Multi-axle vehicles had already been banned. Multi-axle goods vehicles were completely banned from entering the pass during the day. Such vehicles were only allowed at night. Additional police personnel were deployed at major bends of the pass to facilitate traffic.
