On July 16, 2024, a landslide occurred in Shirur during heavy rains. Arjun's body and truck were recovered from the bottom of the Gangavali river after a 72-day rescue mission. The disaster occurred on National Highway 66 in Shirur, Karnataka at 8 am on July 16. . Soil, rocks and mud rushed onto the national highway. A tea shop and nearby houses collapsed. Several people, including the Malayali driver Arjun, are reported missing. Rescue operations were then launched, but rain hampered the rescue operation.
