A liter of coconut oil is priced at 420 in wholesale markets and 450 to 480 in retail shops. Traders estimate that it will cross 600 before Onam. Due to the shortage of coconuts and the increase in prices, there is no sign of the price of coconut oil coming down anytime soon. The price of coconut oil has gone from 180 rupees to close to 500 in a year. Housewives are concerned that the soaring price of coconut oil is affecting the family budget. With the rise in the price of coconut oil, the demand for palm oil and sunflower oil has increased.
