Delhi: Public sector oil companies have issued a statement saying that the news that there is a shortage of petrol, diesel and LPG in the country is baseless. The announcement was made by Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum. The companies have come out with an official explanation in the wake of fake news circulating on social media that is causing panic among the people. The companies clarified that fuel supply is going on without any disruption across the country and that there is sufficient stock available at all petrol pumps. The companies have requested people not to rush to the pumps in large numbers and stockpile fuel in fear of shortage. The statement says that such 'panic buying' should be avoided and normal consumption should continue. Bharat Petroleum pointed out that India is an exporter of petrol and diesel and that there is sufficient stock, including crude oil. They said that the supply chains are functioning without any disruption. The oil companies have asked the public not to believe in rumours and to give priority only to authentic information. The companies are committed to ensuring uninterrupted service to customers and everyone should cooperate to stop false advertisements, the notice specifically states. The companies have also issued strict instructions to all pumps to ensure smooth supply of petroleum products, the notice issued by the companies said.
