Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the higher education sector has been able to be elevated to international standards through the proper interventions of the state government. In the last ten years, there has been excellent development at the basic and academic levels. Translational research centers worth Rs 200 crore, four-year degrees, high-quality research awards and scholarships have been implemented. The Chief Minister was delivering the keynote address at the concluding public meeting of the platinum jubilee celebrations of Mar Ivanios College. Mar Ivanios College is a model college that holds an unparalleled position in the educational progress of the entire state of Kerala. Founded in 1949 by Archbishop Mar Ivanios, this college was formed by drawing inspiration from the thoughts of Santiniketan, which dreamed of free knowledge and a fearless mind. This college, which started with 145 students, is today one of the best large colleges in Kerala. Along with transforming children from ordinary families into excellent people, it also imparts life lessons and social responsibility. Institutions like Mar Ivanios College have contributed significantly to the state's universities and colleges achieving national rankings. The college is ranked 36th among the top 100 colleges in India in the NIRF rankings. The college, which received NAAC accreditation in 1999, also achieved A+ grade in 2019. The college, which received autonomous status in 2014, is also helping other institutions improve the quality of education. Mar Ivanios Campus has produced many personalities who have contributed to the country and the world, including administrators, parliamentary figures, and those who have made their mark in the social, cultural, and sports fields.
