Malappuram: A road safety meeting chaired by District Collector V R Vinod decided to convert National Highway 66 service roads into one-way roads. The meeting decided to remove auto stands and vehicle parking that obstruct the service road and to remove illegal encroachments. Local bodies were instructed to take steps to rearrange auto rickshaw stands. Only long-distance buses including KSRTC are allowed to operate on the highway. Stage carriage buses are allowed to operate only on service roads. Buses should stop at designated stops. Buses should not stop or pick up or drop off people on the national highway. The meeting also decided to take action by checking the cameras on the highway. The meeting also decided to remove billboards, banners, kiosks and other commercial establishments illegally placed on the roadside that obstruct the view of drivers. The meeting was attended by district level officials from departments like Police, Motor Vehicles Department, PWD, PWD NH Division, NHAI, KSEB, LSGD, Health, BSNL, KWAA etc.
