The Education Department is preparing for radical changes in the education sector in Kerala. Education Minister V. Sivankutty announced that new reforms will be introduced in issues such as students' learning style, classroom atmosphere, and mobile phone usage. One major proposal is to change the traditional seating arrangement in classrooms. Instead of rows of benches, the government is considering changing the classrooms to a ‘U’ shape. The minister pointed out that the concept of ‘back benchers’ often negatively affects the confidence and learning of students. Students sitting on the back benches will have less opportunity to interact directly with teachers. The new ‘U’ shape arrangement will encourage all students to actively participate in class discussions. This will help improve communication between students and teachers and create a more vibrant learning environment. This change will also help ensure that all students are treated equally. The government will take a final decision on this issue after the report of the expert committee.
