The deceased were Satish and Ambika of Sastham Poovam Unnati in Vazhachal. Both the deceased belonged to the tribal community. The family consisting of them was living in a hut at Vanchikadavu in Athirappilly to collect forest resources. There were three families here. They were attacked by a herd of wild elephants at Vanchikadavu near the Athirappilly waterfall at around 7 pm yesterday. When the herd of wild elephants rushed towards them, they scattered. It is reported that the wild elephant attacked Satheesh and Ambika who were in front. Ambika and Satish were found dead during a search conducted in the morning. The other family members were shifted to a safe place by the forest department officials.
