The move is to approach the NIA court before approaching the High Court seeking bail for the Malayali nuns languishing in jail in Chhattisgarh. The new move is based on the advice of a senior lawyer. The decision was taken after examining the possibility that if the petition is filed in the High Court today, the procedures may be delayed and the petition may be considered on Monday or Tuesday. The move is taking into account that the High Court is on vacation tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and the NIA court will function tomorrow. The order of the Sessions Court had said that the NIA court could be approached. Keeping this in mind, the move is to approach the NIA court. The decision has been taken jointly by the church leadership, the family members of the arrested nuns and representatives of various political parties. The church leadership is filing a petition on behalf of the nuns in the Bilaspur High Court. The nuns have been in jail for eight days now. It is being closely watched whether the state government will oppose the bail application again. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had told opposition leaders yesterday that he would not oppose it. The church leadership is hopeful that they will get bail if the court goes into the merits of the case.
