Thousands of people from neighboring districts came to watch the elephant yoot. 63 elephants, including seven captive elephants, arrived. The elephant yoot was started by the temple's Melshanthi Sreeraj Narayan Namboothiri giving the first urula to the captive elephant named Savitri Kutty. Prominent figures including Vijay Yesudas arrived to participate in the elephant yoot. The Mahaganapathi Homa was performed by the temple Thantri in the morning. Then the Gaja Pooja was held at 7:30. Gaja Puja is held once every four years. The items used for the Ganpati Homakoottu were 12,008 coconuts, 2000 kilograms of jaggery, 2000 kilograms of avil, 500 kilograms of malar, 60 kilograms of sesame seeds, 50 kilograms of honey, Ganpati lemons, and sugarcane.
