Justice Saurabh Banerjee has ordered online shopping sites including Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho to remove products misusing Reliance and Jio trademarks on a complaint filed by Reliance Industries. The verdict is expected to be a new turning point in ensuring consumer safety and brand credibility. Reliance Industries approached the High Court alleging that its trademarks are being widely misused on e-commerce platforms. The company argued that manufacturing, selling and advertising counterfeit products using the Reliance and Jio brand names and logos is an infringement of its trademark. The court also stated that using branding and artistic works of the company that are similar to products manufactured by Reliance Industries is illegal.
