Wayanad: As the assembly elections approach, the rehabilitation of Wayanad is being discussed. The government is facing severe criticism for not even completing the first phase of houses in the construction of Wayanad township. Both the UDF and the NDA are repeatedly raising the issue in the elections. The CPM is now on the defensive in the township. Meanwhile, the LDF is using the Congress's failure to start house construction as a weapon. The disaster victims are in crisis as they are unable to settle even after a month of the inauguration of the township construction. The reason is that the construction has not been completed. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the township construction on March 1. It was a program organized by the government with great celebration. The government had said at that time that the work would be completed very quickly, that 178 families would be able to live in the first phase and that all the disaster victims would be able to live in it by April. However, even the work of the houses handed over has not been completed yet. No clarity has been given as to when the work will be completed. The number of workers, which used to be around 2300, was reduced after the inauguration. Companies that had taken subcontracts due to lack of construction materials are also in crisis. Meanwhile, the government had said at the time of the inauguration that many works were still pending and that they would be completed soon. The construction would be further delayed if the monsoon season arrived, which would also create a crisis.
