Indians are eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new SUV from Toyota. The vehicle that has been hyped up more than the new Fortuner is none other than the Land Cruiser FJ. Indians have been constantly asking the Japanese automaker when they will get their hands on the mini Fortuner. The company has confirmed that it will be launched in India even if it takes a little longer. Meanwhile, the Land Cruiser FJ has reached another Asian market. Toyota has unveiled the Land Cruiser FJ in Thailand at the 2026 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS). This new SUV, which was first previewed in October last year, will go on sale there by the end of this month. The SUV has been launched in Thailand at a price starting from 1.269 million baht, i.e. Rs. 36.40 lakh. The Land Cruiser FJ is only available in the 4WD 2.7 variant in Thailand. Unlike most compact SUVs currently built on regular car platforms, the Land Cruiser FJ is built on Toyota's IMV0 ladder-frame architecture. Toyota has made sure to be smart when it comes to size too. The mini Fortuner measures 4,610 mm long, 1,855 mm wide, 1,890 mm high, has a wheelbase of 2,580 mm and a ground clearance of 215 mm. The FJ model also has excellent off-road capabilities with wheel articulation and approach angles worthy of a Land Cruiser. The SUV is ready to impress anyone no matter how you look at the design. The design, reminiscent of the old FJ Cruiser, has already become a big hit. The main attractions at the front are the rectangular grille, C-shaped LED daytime running lights on the sides, and round retro-style lamps. When you look at the side view, you can see that the stepped glasshouse and thick C-pillar give it a rugged look. The attraction at the rear of the SUV is the small overhangs attached to the side-opening tailgate and the spare wheel. Like the exterior, Toyota has designed the interior to be minimalistic and futuristic. Customers will get a 7-inch color instrument display, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other notable equipment of the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ SUV includes a six-speaker sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control with PM2.5 filtration, black synthetic leather upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a four-way manual passenger seat, and three USB Type-C charging ports. The Thailand model is powered by the familiar 2TR-FE 2.7-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. The four-cylinder engine, similar to the Fortuner, is capable of producing 166 bhp at 5,200 rpm and 245 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. A six-speed automatic gearbox with continuous shift function handles the transmission duties. The Land Cruiser FJ is different from the usual mid-size SUVs in its mechanical package. It features a part-time four-wheel-drive setup and a low-range transfer case with control hardware borrowed from the Hilux. The company plans to bring the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ to India within two years. Since the SUV is largely localized, its price is expected to start at around Rs 30 lakh.
