Former ISRO Chairman Dr. K Kasturirangan passed away. He was 84. He passed away at his residence in Bengaluru around 10:30 am today. Kasturirangan, the fifth chairman of ISRO, served in the post from 1994 to 2003. He also served as a member of the Rajya Sabha, a member of the Planning Commission, and the Secretary of the Department of Space. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan by the government. Dr. K Kasturirangan played a crucial role in making ISRO a centre of technological excellence. He supervised the development of INSAT-2 and the Indian Remote Sensing Satellites IRS-1A and 1B. He was the project director of the earth observation satellites Bhaskara-1 and Bhaskara-2.
