Thiruvananthapuram: A 10-month-old baby named Alin Sherin Abraham, who died in a road accident, will receive the liver of a 6-month-old child undergoing treatment at KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. The minister said that this is the youngest child to receive a liver through posthumous organ donation in the state. With this, Alin Sherin and the child receiving the liver will become part of history as the youngest organ donor in the state. An ambulance left for Thiruvananthapuram with Alin Sherin's organs. The journey to Thiruvananthapuram was via Edappally-Trippunithura-Kottayam. The organs of their only daughter, who is 0 months old, were donated by father Arun Abraham and mother Sherin Ann John at Amrita Hospital in Ernakulam. The liver, two kidneys, heart valves and two eyeballs were donated. Alin Sherin Abraham, the youngest organ donor in the state, will now live through 4 people. The 10-month-old daughter of Mallappally natives of Pathanamthitta became brain dead following a road accident at 2.30 pm on February 5. While travelling from Kottayam to Thiruvalla via M.C. Road, a car coming from the opposite direction rammed into her near the Pallam Borma Kavala junction. The child was seriously injured and the child's mother and mother's parents who were with her suffered serious injuries. Immediately after the accident, the child was admitted to hospitals in Changanassery and Thiruvalla and later to Amrita Hospital in Kochi on February 7. The child became brain dead on February 13 and the child's family members gave their consent for organ donation. The child's two kidneys will be given to the child who is undergoing treatment at the Pediatric Nephrology Ward of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College SAT Hospital. The liver was donated to Thiruvananthapuram KIMS Hospital, the heart valve to Thiruvananthapuram Sree Chitra Institute and two eyeballs to Amrita Hospital.
