Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has imposed a fine of Rs 1 crore on Air India for serious lapses in passenger safety. The action was taken for operating a passenger aircraft eight times without an airworthiness permit. According to aviation rules, every aircraft needs to undergo proper technical checks and obtain an airworthiness certificate before flying. However, the DGCA had found that Air India did not comply with these standards earlier this month, following which the action was taken. Along with paying the fine, Air India has also been directed to take strict measures to ensure that such lapses do not occur in the future.
